Hi, my name is Jared and I am here to offer you a professional and reliable handyman service. Sunset Home Service is a home repair and handyman service offered by my company Sunset Services LLC. The goal is to provide a trustworthy handyman and home repair service that is available after hours and on the weekends without charging extra service fees. Better yet, a handyman service that gives you, the customer, buying power by knowing how much the project will cost you.
Why Choose Sunset Home Service
There are many handyman services in the Treasure Valley, and all of them seem very reputable. However, I found that when searching for a handyman and hiring a handyman, I was left in the dark as to how much the project actually costs. Sure, any good handyman or contractor is going to provide an estimate or quote on the cost of the project, but how often is that quote accurate? Why can’t I know how much the project is ACTUALLY going to cost before the project is started? When I go to a mechanic for an oil change, I can get an itemized breakdown of all the costs; parts, oil, labor, etc. If I don’t like the costs, I can go to a different mechanic to find a better deal or negotiate the cost by bringing my own parts. Back when I ran a custom harvesting company where I harvested wheat crops for farmers, we charged by the acre. The farmer knew exactly how much the service was going to cost because he knew precisely how many acres of wheat he had. Sure, home repair and construction in general is very different from custom harvesting, and sure with home repair there are sometimes surprises hiding behind the drywall like rotting wood or mold. But why can’t you have a breakdown of costs before the job starts?
Instead, what if you could hire someone to patch and paint a wall and you knew exactly the cost for labor, how much the paint costs, and know exactly when the project would be finished. All before the handyman shows up to your driveway. Like I said, buying power. This is what Sunset Home Service is all about, ensuring you have the buying power by providing you all the information up front.
Who Is Jared
You’ve read this far into the blog post and maybe you like the premise behind Sunset Home Service, with the idea of being transparent with the cost of your project. But now you are asking yourself how you can trust that I have the experience to get the job done and done right the first time.
My construction experience began in my childhood where my mom, who painted ceilings and walls for a man who owned multiple rental and office properties in Idaho Falls. I remember learning the proper way to use a roller brush, paint the upper edge of a wall that was a different color from the ceiling, and tape off baseboards. As I became a teenager, I helped with multiple remodel jobs at home. I learned how to tile a floor when I helped my mom retile the dining room floor. We built an entire shed and even an addition to the house.
When I turned 18, I began my adventure as a volunteer firefighter for the Shelley Firth Fire District where I served for 6 years. While working as a firefighter I learned the fine details of home construction and how that construction can affect fire behavior. There is a reason for building codes and some of those codes help prevent fire or reduce damage when fire does occur. I argue that you don’t truly know how to build a house until you see one burn down.
At the same time I was volunteering as a firefighter, I helped build my mother a new home after my childhood home was lost in a fire. How ironic, a firefighters childhood home burns to the ground. While building the home, I was hired by the electrician. I worked as an electrician for 8 months before deciding I wanted a four year degree.
I left the construction business, at least that was what I thought I was doing, and attended Brigham Young University – Idaho, in Rexburg, to get a degree in Agronomy, Crop and Soil Science. I may have learned how to grow the perfect lawn, a crop of tomatoes or potatoes, and the difference between yams and sweet potatoes, but I also learned how to manage rental homes and apartments.
While attending classes I also needed to pay for those classes. I began working for one of my professors who was more of a property investor by day and a professor by night. He owned multiple rentals and apartments in Rexburg and needed maintenance workers. So I began helping him with all manner of maintenance needs on his multiple properties. I worked on small single family rentals to large apartment complexes such as The Towers and Hillside Apartments. The job included simple things like changing light bulbs to full remodels that included tiling, concrete work, carpentry, and cabinet hanging.
I worked in that maintenance capacity for nearly 5 years, even after graduating college and when I started working for the State of Idaho in the Department of Water Resources as a Water Resource Agent.
Even though I had a professional job, I continued to dabble in home repair and construction. There was always a project. The latest being helping my brother build his house. Now that I moved to Boise, I figure it is time to offer my expertise to people here in the Treasure Valley. That is why I am here, to help you finish your projects. So visit Sunsethomeservice.com and give me a call. I hope to hear from you soon.
